Naissaar on suuruselt 6.-s saar, suurusega 18,6 km2. Saare pikkus on 9 km, lauis 4 km. 85% saarest on kaetud metsaga.
Esimesed teated püsiasustusest saarel on pärit 15.sajandist ja sel ajal oli saar asustatud soomlaste ja rootslastega.
Saar on olnud tähtis maamärk meresõitjatele. Kaitserajatisi hakati saarele rajama Rootsi ajal (1561-1710). töödega jätkas Peeter I. Ka Eesti Esimese Vabariigi ajal olid siin kaitserajatised. Saarel oli siis 250 külaelanikku ja 200 sõdurit.
Nõukogude ajal kasutas Nõukogude Liit seda meremiinide ladustamiseks. Alles 1994.a. lahkusid siit viimased nõukogide armeeüksused. Saar puhastati siis ohtlikest lõhkekehadest. Märke vene vägedest on aga saar siiani täis.

Last Saturday , I was invited by a relative of mine to Naissaare . There it turned out that it is the anniversary of the birthday celebrations . What a great idea! This was distinct from any other birthday , and will therefore be long remembered. Hour boat trip around a table covered with a rich , then long and thorough on-site tour and dinner , and then back again.
Naissaar is sixth - largest island of Estonia , size 18.6 km2 . The island is 9 km long, 4 km wide . 85 % of the island is covered by forest .
The first reports of permanent settlement on the island is from the 15th century and at that time the island was inhabited Finns and Swedes .
The island has been an important landmark for sailors . Defense buildings came to the island at Sweden time ( 1561-1710 ) and were continued by Peter I. Also, at the time of First Estonian Republic the fortifications were here. The island was then a village of 250 inhabitants and 200 soldiers.
During the Soviet era , the Soviet Union used that island as sea mines for storage. It was not until 1994 left here last Soviet army units . The island was then purified dangerous ordnance. Signs of Russian troops in the island , however, is still full.
